A Modern Archer in the Ming Dynasty – Killing the Khan’s Brother at First Draw

Olympic archery champion Shen Tan dies in a freak accident while tuning his bowstring, only to open his eyes as a no-good “ghost soldier” lieutenant idling away his pay in the besieged city of Ningyuan in the final days of the Ming Dynasty. It is the twelfth lunar month of the second year of Chongzhen. The Later Jin army has surrounded the city, the defending general has fallen in battle, morale among the defenders is shattered, and outside the walls the enemy general proclaims that once the city falls, there will be “no cease-fire for three days.” On the brink of annihilation, Shen Tan reaches for his bow. From a hundred and twenty paces, the enemy commander—the Second Beile, Amin—tumbles from his horse, pierced through the left eye in a single arrow to the skull. As the Jin forces descend into chaos, fighting among themselves over the corpse, the fate of the Ming Dynasty is irreversibly rewritten by the arrival of one “archery god” from another age. Witness how a modern sharpshooter, armed only with a recurve bow, rises from the sea of corpses and blood to defy the apocalypse of a collapsing dynasty.
