Hitokui Danchi

The year is 1984. Japan stands at a curious crossroads, caught between the fading embers of a postwar economic miracle and the gaudy, unbridled excess of the coming bubble era. It is in this twilight of an era that Kosuke, accompanied by his childhood friend and sweetheart, Ayako, arrives at the Hikarigahara Housing Complex. They are a young couple on the precipice of a new beginning, hopeful and eager to build a life within the austere, uniform walls of the sprawling estate. The existing residents greet them with a warmth that feels almost overwhelming—a chorus of friendly faces and helping hands that seems to promise a peaceful, idyllic future. Yet, beneath the veneer of communal harmony, the sprawling complex harbors a festering wound. Whispers cling to the damp hallways and echo in the empty courtyards, tales of a darkness that has long taken root in the estate's foundations. As Kosuke and Ayako begin to settle in, they find themselves entangled in a chilling legacy they never anticipated. The honeymoon phase of their new life is cut short as a sinister history begins to surface, threatening to devour the happiness they so desperately sought in a place that was supposed to be their home.
