Seven years ago, the case seemed open and shut: Cheng Jinxi—strikingly beautiful and barely an adult—walked into a police station and confessed to the brutal slaughter of his own family. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, leaving behind a trail of questions that Detective Liang Yuanfeng could never quite silence. Despite the finality of the verdict, Yuanfeng maintained a quiet, persistent connection with the incarcerated youth, visiting him year after year. It was during these prison meetings that Jinxi revealed his true nature: a shaman wielding inexplicable supernatural abilities—a fact Yuanfeng chose to keep buried, a secret shared only between them. Now, seven years later, the city is plagued by a wave of grotesque, reality-bending phenomena that defy all logical explanation. With the public demanding answers and his own career in jeopardy, a suspended Yuanfeng makes a desperate, unauthorized decision: he pulls Jinxi out of his cell to act as an unorthodox consultant in pursuit of the truth. Forced back into a world that condemned him, Jinxi becomes Yuanfeng’s shadow—a dangerous, unpredictable weapon against the encroaching darkness. Reunited under the weight of their concealed history, the detective and the shaman find themselves entangled once more in a violent current. As the line between captor and captive blurs, they forge a complicated, deeply twisted partnership—one born of necessity, obsession, and an unspoken bond that may consume them both.
