Yasashii Hikari

For as long as he can remember, Miyake’s existence has been an unbroken cycle of deadlines and commuter trains—a salaryman's grind that left no room for pause, reflection, or genuine connection. Buried under the weight of metropolitan expectations, he finds himself teetering on the edge of exhaustion, wondering if a different pace of life might offer a reprieve from the ceaseless demand for productivity. That quiet, desperate wish leads him to accept a work transfer to Tsukinowa, a small, secluded island whose name alone seems to promise a world apart from the frantic energy of the mainland. As the ferry cuts through the mist toward the shore, Miyake immediately senses the island's unique rhythm—where tides mark the hours and the rustle of leaves replaces the roar of traffic. Here, time does not race; it drifts, measured by the rising sun and the turning of seasons rather than the ticking of a clock. Tasked with navigating this unfamiliar terrain, both geographically and emotionally, is Hiyoko, a local high school girl whose roots run deep in the island's soil. With an easy familiarity with every winding path and hidden cove, she becomes his unexpected compass in this new chapter. Guided by Hiyoko's steady presence, Miyake slowly begins to peel back the layers of his former self, discovering that a place where time moves gently can also mend a spirit worn thin by haste. Yet, as he settles into the island's tranquil embrace, he must learn that stepping away from the past is only the beginning; truly embracing this second chance means confronting the very reasons he felt so lost in the first place.
