Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World

The journey opens on a single, lingering question. Asked to give a name, a young traveler pauses and turns for one last look at the road behind—where, beyond a red horizon, the gates of a homeland are sinking quietly into the distance, never to be seen again. Facing forward once more, eyes fixed on the path ahead, the traveler begins to answer, "My name is—" and lets the open road finish the rest. That traveler is Kino, a wanderer crossing a beautiful world astride Hermes, a talking motorrad who serves as both vehicle and closest companion. The two are never apart: Hermes supplies the speed, while Kino provides the balance, and together they carry each other through country after country filled with strangers. One rule governs their travels: in any land, they stay no longer than three days. It is just enough time to learn a destination's unique customs, to meet its people, and to glimpse a way of life unlike any other—before the pull of the horizon calls them onward once more. And so Kino and Hermes ride on, ever forward, through the beautiful world.
