Philomel the Fake

The discovery of a strange, weathered book hidden within the imperial gardens shatters Princess Philomel’s world in the most unnerving way possible. As she flips through its pages, she is horrified to find that the story’s most reviled villain bears her own name—and that the fiction recorded within is beginning to bleed into her reality. One by one, the events she reads are manifesting around her, forcing Philomel to confront a terrifying conclusion: she is not the true princess at all, but an impostor occupying a role that was never rightfully hers. According to the narrative, the genuine royal heir will eventually return to claim the throne, and the consequence for Philomel’s deception is nothing short of execution. Determined to cheat the prophecy that has marked her for death, Philomel resolves to defy the written word at every turn. She becomes acutely aware that every passing day brings her closer to the story’s grim climax, leaving her no choice but to actively sabotage the unfolding plot. Yet altering destiny is a precarious game, especially when the line between what is fated and what she can control grows increasingly blurred. With the gallows looming on the horizon, this reluctant "fake" must use every ounce of wit and will she possesses to rewrite the ending before the final page turns—but in a world where the narrative seems bent on her ruin, she cannot afford a single misstep. Can a princess who was never meant to exist carve out a future for herself, or is her tragic fate already sealed in ink?
