Blade & Bastard

In the deepest, unexplored reaches of a sprawling dungeon, a discovery is made that defies all reason: a corpse that should never have existed. It belongs to Iarumas, a man resurrected with every memory of his former life stripped away. Left with only a void where his past once was, he carves out an unusual trade for himself—descending again and again into the labyrinth's depths to recover the bodies of adventurers who never made it back. Whether those fallen souls can be raised as he was, or whether God will instead reduce them to ash upon the altar, no one can say. Iarumas pockets his finder's fee either way. Though his skill in navigating the depths earns him a grudging measure of respect, his cold, transactional outlook draws open scorn. Kept at arm's length by the living, he keeps company almost entirely with the dead. Then he encounters Garbage—a feral young swordswoman and the lone survivor of a party massacred in the dark. Together, the unlikely pair pushes ever deeper, combing the dungeon's treacherous corridors for any trace of who Iarumas once was, all while dodging ravenous monsters, deadly traps, and the one fate from which no one returns: a permanent scattering of ash.
