The moment was abrupt, a collision of proximity and unspoken tension that left no room for preparation. It happened at the edge of the schoolyard, the late afternoon sun casting long, amber shadows across the pavement. Before I could parse the shift in the air or the deliberate way Aki had stepped closer, her lips met mine. My world narrowed to a single, amplified point of contact, and in the ensuing silence, the only sound was the frantic, undeniable drumming of my own heart against my ribs. That singular moment unraveled into a cascade of physical reactions I couldn't control—the heat rising to my cheeks, the sudden loss of breath, and the electric current that seemed to jolt through every nerve ending. I stood frozen, my mind a blank slate struggling to process what had just transpired. When I finally managed to focus, it was on Aki's expression, a perfect, infuriatingly subtle curve of her lips that spoke of quiet amusement and a knowledge I didn't yet possess. The weight of that teasing smile was as potent as the kiss itself, leaving me caught between the shock of the new and the lingering, bewildering warmth of a first, unforgettable encounter.
