Kara no Kioku

The morning of his high school entrance ceremony was meant to herald a new chapter for Rei—a day of promise and new beginnings. Instead, it delivers a sudden, inexplicable wave of languor that seizes him without warning amidst the throng of expectant students. His senses blur, and consciousness slips away, plunging him into an unnerving void. When he finally awakens, the world has irrevocably altered. The familiar landmarks of his town remain, but they are now populated by grotesque silhouettes and misshapen figures that bear no resemblance to humanity—entities that watch from the shadows and move in ways that defy natural law. Trapped within a cityscape where strange phenomena are no longer anomalies but a constant, stretching reality, Rei finds himself utterly adrift. Yet, he soon realizes his solitude is not absolute. Scattered across this nightmarish landscape are other young souls, each as lonely and disoriented as he is. These are outcasts and quiet dreamers, youths who had previously existed on the fringes of ordinary life, now thrust into a surreal struggle for survival. Their fates intertwine in a chance encounter, forging a fragile bond against the encroaching madness. Together, they must navigate the shifting horrors of their town, confront the inhuman things that lurk within it, and grapple with the profound isolation that threatens to consume them from within.
