Futari no Taisei

On the surface, Taisei Amado is the very picture of a prodigy—a young shogi player whose tactical brilliance and unfaltering composure at the board have earned him a place among the elite. Yet beneath that polished exterior lies a duality that no opponent has ever glimpsed. Taisei carries not one, but two concealed truths, hidden so deep that even his closest rivals remain blind to the forces that truly steer his relentless pursuit of victory. As the pieces glide across the wooden grid, the stakes ascend far beyond mere tournament standings. Each match becomes a delicate high-wire act, where Taisei must balance his public genius against the private weight of his secrets, all while navigating a world steeped in centuries-old tradition and razor-sharp psychological tension. The hushed shogi halls hum with quiet intensity; every move is scrutinized, every miscalculation a potential fracture in his carefully guarded facade. For Taisei, however, the most formidable adversary is not the player seated across the board, but the very nature of the truths he protects—truths that threaten to dismantle his constructed reality with every decisive checkmate. Bringing this gripping narrative to vivid life is Kentaro Fukuda, the acclaimed creator of *Devilyman* and *Shinigiwa*, whose exquisite, dynamic artwork elevates every panel into a visual symphony. Fukuda's deft linework and expressive character designs capture the electric friction of mental combat, the silent clashes of will, and the profound isolation of a genius living under dual shadows. The result is a shogi saga that pulls readers into its intricate depths—a tale as intellectually riveting as it is emotionally haunting, and one that refuses to release its hold until the final, fateful move is played.
