In a world where existence itself is defined by the mineral "stones," life is carved from the earth’s crust and fortune is measured in crystalline strata. Akeboshi, a master craftsman who polishes and refines these sacred minerals, wanders a landscape shaped by ore and legend. There, he encounters a solitary boy bearing a chilling affliction: his left leg has been completely petrified, turned to rigid, unyielding stone from the knee down. The boy speaks of only one goal—to find a mysterious man adorned with three piercings—and behind his desperate eyes lies a story he is unwilling, or unable, to fully tell. As Akeboshi takes the boy under his wing, the craftsman senses that the petrification is no mere accident but a symptom of a deeper, more dangerous secret tied to the boy’s past. The boy's family has been taken, swallowed by forces that lurk beyond the reach of ordinary miners and refiners. Bound by an unspoken pact, the master and his unlikely student set out from the subterranean depths into a world that prizes stones above blood.
