The Great Yokai War

After his parents' divorce uproots his life, timid young Tadashi finds himself adrift in a quiet rural town. His mundane existence takes a startling turn at the local festival when he is unexpectedly chosen to serve as this year's "Kirin Rider"—a sacred role tasked with safeguarding all that is benevolent. Yet Tadashi quickly learns that this ancient title is far more than ceremonial. His new duty is thrust into terrifying reality with the arrival of Kato, a vengeful spirit who was once human. Consumed by an undying hatred for humanity's cruel treatment of yokai, Kato has transformed into a demonic force bent on retribution. To orchestrate his devastating crusade, Kato joins forces with the yokai Hanako and summons Yomotsumono, a blazing entity forged from the collective resentment of everything mankind has cast aside. By capturing other yokai and subjecting them to Yomotsumono's searing flames, Kato conjures its fearsome physical manifestation: Nanjara-Monjara, a grotesque, tentacled beast capable of flight. As chaos descends, Tadashi stands as humanity's final defense. His desperate quest propels him to claim the legendary Holy Sword from its guardian, the Great Tengu. Only then can he unite the scattered yokai dwelling along Mizuki Road, rallying them for a climactic battle to shatter Kato's malevolent scheme once and for all. Clocking in at 220 pages, this tale eschews traditional chapter breaks, reading instead as a relentless, uninterrupted epic—a true one-shot that hurtles from opening to close without pause.
