A Sweet Kiss After the Last Train

To her coworkers, Saeka is the unshakable anchor of the office—a four-year veteran whose quiet reliability and steady hands make her the one everyone turns to in a pinch. Trusted by all, she has built a reputation that seems ironclad. But the woman everyone leans on has never learned how to lean back. Not on her friends, and not even on her boyfriend, who remains oblivious to the tensions she carries. With no one to share the weight, Saeka has developed a single, shameful pressure valve: slipping away to smoke in secret, the only moments she allows herself to exhale. Her carefully ordered world trembles when her former superior—the man who cataloged every fumble and embarrassing misstep from her disastrous rookie days—transfers from his Kansai post back to her home office. Suddenly, the mask of composure she has perfected feels fragile and thin. Determined to project nothing but unassailable strength, she throws up every defense she can muster. Yet time has a way of softening old edges. Against her will, she finds herself drawn into his orbit, and he, in turn, begins to notice the stress she so desperately conceals. In his own peculiar, caring way, he reaches out—not with pity, but with quiet interventions that slowly chip away at her walls. What begins as a wary reunion gradually deepens into an unexpected bond, one that might finally teach Saeka that accepting help isn't a weakness, and that even the most solitary hearts can find solace in an unlikely kind of tenderness.
