The year is 1999—the year Nostradamus prophesied would mark the end of the human race. As an unprecedented occult boom sweeps the nation, Inubousaki, an editor at a third-rate occult magazine, throws herself into covering the strange and the inexplicable in pursuit of her next headline. Accompanying her on every assignment is Asama, a photographer blessed—or perhaps cursed—with genuine psychic power. What begins as routine tabloid work soon turns harrowing: the deeper the pair digs into their investigations, the more they find themselves confronting a succession of terrifying, bizarre phenomena that no rational explanation can account for. And as Asama's abilities bind the two ever closer together, the boundaries of the known world begin to crumble around them. The story then leaps to the present day of 2023. Asama, now advanced in years, receives an unexpected visitor—someone determined to investigate what became of Inubousaki all those years ago, and to drag the truth of that fateful time back into the light.
