First impressions have a way of settling in quickly, coloring everything we think we know about the people around us. When a chance encounter leads to a brand-new friendship, it feels natural to trust that initial picture—the quiet assumptions, the surface-level read on who someone is and what they're about. But what happens when that carefully constructed image begins to crack? That is the heart of this story: a narrator who befriends someone new, only to gradually discover that the person standing before them is nothing like what they had imagined. The friend they thought they understood turns out to hold surprises beneath the surface—depths that no quick judgment could have captured. Each layer peeled back challenges the assumptions made on that very first meeting. At once gentle and insightful, this tale explores the gap between how we perceive others and who they truly are. It reminds readers that people are rarely as simple as they first appear, and that real connection begins the moment we set our preconceptions aside and let someone show us their genuine self.
