Under the Oak Tree

Under the Oak Tree follows Maximilian, a timid young noblewoman whose lifelong stutter has left her burdened with doubt and hesitant to claim any place in the world. Bound against her will in marriage to the knight Sir Riftan, she scarcely has a chance to know her new husband before duty calls him away—departing for a military campaign on the very heels of their wedding night, and leaving Maxi behind to face an uncertain future alone. Three long years pass before Riftan returns in triumph, no longer a stranger but a husband ready at last to cherish the wife he left behind. As married life finally begins and warmth slowly replaces hesitation, Maxi dares to hope for the happiness she has never known. Yet one haunting question shadows her newfound joy: is she truly worthy of such love?
