Yadokashi

In a world where survival depends on the symbiotic bond between humans and the colossal, living sanctuaries known as Yadokashi, a solitary orphan wanders a desolate landscape with nowhere to call her own. These sentient creatures once served as mobile homes and protectors, but now their abandoned husks litter the earth—decaying relics of a forgotten era. Driven by desperation, the girl stumbles upon a dilapidated Yadokashi nestled amidst the rubble, its exterior ravaged by time and its breathing shallow and labored. Superstition and fear have long branded this particular beast as irredeemably savage, a feral danger that no one dares approach. Its wounds run deep, both in flesh and spirit, leading most to dismiss it as a lost cause destined for oblivion. Yet, as the orphan draws closer, she catches a faint tremor of warmth beneath its broken carapace—a silent, fragile plea that contradicts the ominous rumors. Though battered, the Yadokashi may still harbor the capacity to offer shelter and companionship. However, reclaiming that dormant sanctuary demands far more than merely occupying its space. To awaken the home that lies within, the girl must confront the creature’s trauma, chipping away at years of neglect and mistrust with patient care. It is a perilous gamble, for the line between savior and prey blurs in the presence of such a wounded giant. But in risking everything to mend what time has broken, she may discover that a true home is not simply a place to live—it is a bond forged in the ashes of despair, requiring equal measures of courage and compassion from both inhabitant and habitation.
