Golden Kamuy

In the early twentieth century, Saichi Sugimoto, a veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, journeys into the wilds of Hokkaido, the Japanese frontier. He is searching for a hidden hoard of gold, armed only with a cryptic map and the aid of a native Ainu girl. Together they navigate a vast and unforgiving landscape, where the promise of wealth is shadowed by constant danger. Sugimoto’s dilemma grows sharper because he is not alone in the hunt. Murderous cutthroats, bandits, and rogues also know about the treasure, and they will stop at nothing to claim it. To survive, he must contend with these ruthless rivals while pressing deeper into the frontier, relying on his companion’s help and his own resolve. The search becomes a deadly contest in which the gold remains tantalizingly close but every encounter can turn violent. In this rugged setting, Sugimoto must fight to stay alive long enough to uncover the hoard—and to protect himself from those who would kill for the same prize.
