Back to '88: Striking Gold with Five Bucks

Chen Yan dies in an underground antique deal gone wrong. When he opens his eyes again, it is the 17th day of the twelfth lunar month, 1988. In three days, his younger sister will be tricked by debt collectors onto a southbound bus. His family owes six hundred yuan, and his father's guarantee slip is still in someone else's hands. With only five yuan and thirty cents in his pocket, he rushes to the scrapyard and digs through a pile of old books discarded by the county cultural center. There, he uncovers a trial-print ticket worth eight hundred yuan. From vintage books and stamps to silver dollars, ration coupons, antique furniture, paintings, auctions, and the repatriation of national treasures, Chen Yan relies on his past-life restoration skills and encyclopedic knowledge of vintage items to reshape his family's destiny. This time around, the IOU must be burned, his sister must stay home, and every lost relic must find its way back to where it truly belongs.
