Onaji Tsuki o Mite Iru

Under the silent watch of the moon, young Gen Minahiro slips away from a reformatory one night. Years before that escape, Gen—known to everyone as Don-chan—spent his days alongside Tetsuya, the two of them inseparable companions. They whiled away their time delighting in Don-chan's peculiar gift: the ability to divine people's thoughts and capture them on paper through his drawings. Their carefree world shifts when they encounter their enigmatic foreign neighbor, Mr. Coldman, and his frail daughter, Emi. A close friendship quickly forms, and one evening beneath that same benevolent moon, Don-chan makes a heartfelt vow to draw Emi's portrait every year on her birthday. As the years pass, however, a single devastating event alters the course of their lives forever.
