Blue Phobia

Beneath a solitary island adrift in a vast ocean lies a vein of ore whose true nature defies understanding. Initially, the prisoners condemned to extract this mineral are little more than expendable labor, but the rock’s insidious properties soon reveal themselves. Prolonged contact does not merely stain the skin—it initiates a slow, horrifying transmutation, turning flesh and bone to a crystalline blue. Inevitably, the transformation consumes the entire body, reducing what was once a living person to a silent, inert chunk of the very ore they were forced to mine. The authorities who orchestrated this penal operation, however, have no intention of halting the work. Instead, they repurpose the island into a clandestine research facility, treating the afflicted prisoners as disposable specimens for countless experiments aimed at probing the ore's bizarre effects. Within this cold, clinical hell, human suffering is catalogued and quantified, and the line between warden and scientist blurs into indifference. It is against this backdrop of institutional cruelty that the story finds its catalyst: Kai, a researcher employed within the facility, makes a fateful decision. Unable to stomach the endless cycle of exploitation and decay, he resolves to break one of the patients free, setting in motion a desperate gamble that pits his conscience against the ruthless machinery of the island.
