Cabinet Office Director-General for Policy Planning Koujirou Shindou is at Haneda Airport, preparing to depart on a business trip. As his aircraft sits on the runway, a colossal structure materializes out of thin air, enveloping the plane—along with Shindou and its 251 other passengers—entirely intact. Once everyone has disembarked inside the unknown space, a man who appears perfectly ordinary steps forward, reassuring the passengers that they are in no immediate danger. Shindou demands his identity and an explanation of the situation. In response, the exterior of the structure is projected onto a large screen, and simultaneously, every passenger's mobile phone begins to ring in unison. Each screen displays a message from the man, addressed to every citizen of Japan: "I, Yaha-kui zaShunina, hereby notify you that I am going to intervene in Japan's internal affairs." What drives this enigmatic young man, and can Shindou successfully serve as a liaison between Japan and the Anisotorons?
