1000 Yen Hero

Mysterious monsters stalk Japan, attacking ordinary citizens without warning—yet standing between the people and catastrophe are the heroes. In this world, however, superhuman power comes with a price tag: every second a hero's ability remains active, it burns through yen at a steady rate. Saving lives, quite literally, runs on money. For Hiasa Sen, heroics are the last thing on his mind. His days are consumed by the daily grind of survival—chasing down grocery sales, hopping from one part-time job to the next, and above all, looking after the little sister who depends on him. With every yen hard-earned, there's little room in his life for anything beyond keeping his household afloat. But danger has a way of finding those least prepared for it. When a threat draws near, Hiasa is forced to reveal a secret power of his very own—an ability that may very well turn out to be far more trouble than it's worth.
