By day, Kaido Wataru performs the solemn rites of an undertaker, shepherding the departed into the next life. By night, he surrenders to the raw power of his motorcycle, his heart set on a single, reckless ambition: to achieve a velocity beyond any rider before him. That moment finally arrives as his speedometer touches three hundred kilometers per hour—a fleeting peak of exhilaration that shatters instantly into a violent crash. The impact steals three years of his life, locking him in a motionless coma while the world spins on without him. Awakening to a nation that feels utterly foreign, Wataru discovers that the Japan he remembers has been overwritten by something starkly different and deeply unsettling. A strange, ethereal being now trails him like a shadow, while a newly transplanted eye—gifted during his long slumber—grants him a perspective that blurs the line between reality and nightmare. Armed with nothing but his bike and a fractured sense of purpose, he sets off on a solitary road movie across this uncanny terrain. This stark, surreal journey draws its bones from the original draft of *Shadows of the Damned*, itself a loose reimagining of Franz Kafka's *The Castle*, infusing Wataru's quest with the same haunting disorientation and existential weight.
