Oni wa Warau ka

Hoshitani is just an ordinary high schooler, but an ordinary life shatters the moment he accidentally witnesses his easygoing classmate Kashiwase in a clandestine embrace with their P.E. teacher. The image of that illicit tryst sears itself into his mind, turning a simple school day into a quiet obsession he can neither voice nor forget. He watches Kashiwase drift through the hallways with that same carefree smirk, seemingly unburdened by the secret they now share, leaving Hoshitani to carry the weight of a knowledge that feels both scandalous and strangely intimate. That stifling tension finally breaks during a physical education field trip, where an unforeseen twist of fate thrusts Hoshitani into Kashiwase’s orbit. Under the guise of casual banter, Kashiwase leans in with a teasing, almost cruel question—asking if Hoshitani is on his period—a remark so absurdly personal that it blurs the line between mockery and invitation. In that charged moment, the trivial games of their peers and the selfish antics of the adults around them fade into irrelevance. Surrounded by a world where grown-ups treat affection like a disposable toy, these two young men find themselves drawn into an earnest, clumsy collision. They do not play games; they simply cling to each other in the dark, searching for solace in a connection that feels terrifyingly real.
