Usotoki Rhetoric

Sixteen-year-old Kanoko Urabe possesses an unusual ability: she can detect lies by hearing a distinct, metallic clang echoing within a person’s voice. As a child, her uncompromising honesty led her to expose the deceptions of those around her, resulting in ostracization and ultimately forcing her to leave her rural hometown. Seeking a new beginning in 1920s Japan, she arrives in the city of Tsukumoya, where a chance encounter introduces her to Souma Iwai, a talented but destitute detective. After Kanoko demonstrates her unique gift, Souma recognizes its value and invites her to become his assistant at his investigation firm. Together, they build a reputation for solving difficult cases through the combination of his keen intellect and her supernatural insight. Through their work, Kanoko finds not only purpose but also meaningful connections with the diverse individuals they assist.
