The Last Mourner: Wailing Against Fate

In the hidden world of folk mysticism, there are six gates of yin practitioners. The upper three gates manipulate fate from the shadows, while the lower three risk their lives for survival. Chen Wuliang is the last surviving mourner of the Wailing Gate, one of the lower three. When the steward of a wealthy tycoon offers him eight hundred thousand yuan to lead the funeral rites for the recently deceased patriarch, Chen accepts. But as he unleashes his signature heart-rending wail at the altar, a woman’s voice from within the crimson coffin—sealed with nine soul-suppressing nails—eerily echoes his melody. While the guests collapse in terror, Chen kicks over the brazier and draws his ancestral half-length copper mourning staff, declaring that if his voice fails today, the coffin lid will never be closed. From the alleyways of the capital to the underground rivers of Xiangxi, and from the lodges of the Northeast to the ancestral halls of Minnan, this humble mourner adheres strictly to ancient traditions. Armed with an iron voice and a copper staff, he dismantles the schemes of the upper gates one by one. The Wailing Gate follows a grim ancestral precept: when the voice breaks, the mourner dies. Yet Chen Wuliang vows to use his final cry to forge a world where mourners are no longer needed.
