The Gray Casebook

Midnight in a deserted New York alley. An NCPD officer holds a man at gunpoint and asks for his name. The reply: "Dorian L. Gray." The officer immediately recognizes the connection to Oscar Wilde's infamous novel—but Gray corrects him: the literary Dorian Gray is merely an ancestor. Giving him one final chance to come clean, the officer raises his weapon, ignoring the corpse behind him that bleeds white. Gray, however, remains calm, warning the officer not to waste ammunition on the creature stumbling back to its feet—a "bloodsucking species," if he prefers the term. Because the only trait Gray shares with his ancestor is this: neither of them can die.
