Ringo Uri no Utakata Shoujo

This one-shot brings to the page the beloved Vocaloid song of the same name, translating its melody and lyrics into illustrated form while preserving the wistful, bittersweet atmosphere that made the original so unforgettable. The title itself — often rendered as "The Ephemeral Apple-Selling Girl" — sets the tone, promising a tale where beauty and sorrow are woven tightly together. At the heart of the story stands the girl of the title: a young apple seller whose existence is as fleeting as *utakata*, the foam that drifts momentarily on water, a classical image of impermanence. Her simple trade becomes something quietly extraordinary, and the brief encounters surrounding her glow with warmth even as they drift toward an inevitable farewell. In her world, the sweetness of any given moment cannot be separated from the knowledge that it is already slipping away. Like the song that inspired it, this short work is a meditation on transience — on cherishing something precisely because it cannot last. It distills a single, delicate chapter of a girl's ephemeral life and asks the reader to hold onto it, if only for a little while, before it fades like foam on the water.
