Born in an era that no longer accommodates her nature, Mameda is a tanuki whose deepest desire is to deceive humans, even though the age of such mystical trickery has long since passed. Her perspective shifts when she encounters Bunko, a rakugo master who demonstrates that it is still possible to enchant an audience using nothing but the power of spoken words rather than supernatural illusions. Inspired by this revelation, Mameda resolves to become Bunko’s apprentice, though she faces the daunting challenge of persuading the stoic performer to accept her as a student.
