Death's Game

For Choi Yijae, existence has long been a treadmill of quiet defeats. Unemployed for what feels like an eternity, he watches his ex-girlfriend build a new life without him, while the last vestiges of his financial security are devoured by a bitcoin scam that leaves him penniless. Beneath the crushing inertia of societal judgment and his own accumulating regrets, he finds only one door still open—a deliberate, final exit. But when he takes that step into the void, he is met not by oblivion, but by a being of immense, cold fury: Death herself. Insulted by the casual flippancy with which he discarded his one and only life, Death refuses him a peaceful rest. Instead, she imposes a cruel trial: Yijae must be reborn into the bodies of thirteen different people, each one teetering on the brink of a gruesome, predetermined demise. His task is brutally simple in theory, yet fiendishly difficult in practice—he must cheat the fate awaiting each host. Every successful evasion grants him the full tenure of that person's natural lifespan, a fragmented second chance scattered across a dozen doomed existences. His own life was a wasteland of missed opportunities, yet now he must fight tooth and nail to preserve the futures of perfect strangers. As he plunges from one precarious existence to the next, the game forces him to question a bitter truth: if he could not value his own days, does he have any right to fight for the days of others?
