Takai Tou no Majou

A collection of wildly diverse short fiction, *Takai Tou no Majou* weaves sharp social satire with a perpetually wry, irreverent wit. Across seven distinct tales, the mundane collides with the fantastic, and human folly is laid bare under the glare of alien suns and the weight of ancient traditions. Whether set in a gritty modern city or on the dusty frontiers of space, each story peers into the quiet absurdities of existence, never shying away from a cynical chuckle or a pointed observation about the world we take for granted. The anthology opens with a weary Santa Claus trudging through a particularly brutal Christmas Eve, his jaded spirit tested by the season’s demands. A young couple’s maiden voyage abroad takes a harrowing turn when they heedlessly abandon the safety of the tourist trail, while an enigmatic entry simply titled “TUDM” offers a brief, cryptic interlude. On a distant battlefield, a platoon captain struggles to hold her squad together as unexpected alien developments threaten to unravel their mission. Far from the front lines, a lonely woman on a desert planet finds her isolation broken by a mysterious new acquaintance, and a backpacking wanderer stumbles upon an all-too-easy path to quick cash in a bustling city. Finally, an unsuspecting boy is drawn into the peculiar orbit of a so-called “witch,” forced to serve as her reluctant helper in a tale that closes the volume on a note of darkly comedic wonder.
