The story unfolds during the Later Zhou dynasty (900–960 AD), when Chi Wu is imprisoned after deliberately losing to the emperor. His true objective, however, lies within the prison itself: a clue to the whereabouts of the Qi Lin Treasure, the greatest lost treasure in the world. Word of his capture quickly reaches his senior, Tie Zong Heng—a former officer of the imperial court known as Lawless—who resolves to re-enlist in the imperial service with one purpose in mind: hunting down Chi Wu.
