Rebirth in a 1960s Mountain Village: Hunting the White Mountains and Songhua Waters

Shen Guodong's final thought before dying was a bitter resolution: he should never have married a widow with a child and spent a lifetime raising another man's son. But when he opens his eyes again, he finds himself back sixty years in the past, eighteen years old once more. This time, things will be different. He will split from the family household, cut ties with the parasitic relatives who drained him dry, and build a quiet, comfortable life on his own terms. It is the 1960s in a small mountain village at the foot of Changbai Mountain, on the banks of the Songhua River. The endless forests hold lingzhi mushrooms, monkey-head mushrooms, and aged wild ginseng, while roe deer, sika deer, wild boar, and black bears roam the slopes. The ever-flowing river teems with crayfish, frogs, and the region's prized fish of every kind. With his rifle on his shoulder, Shen Guodong heads into the mountains to hunt; with his trousers rolled up, he wades into the river to catch fish. Relying on his skills and hard work, his days grow better and better. The regrets of his past life will be made right in this one—and the girl he failed to marry before is the woman he is determined to take as his wife this time around.
