Standing over 180 centimeters tall and gifted with piercing, sharp-eyed stares, Hyoudou Kaname and Shishido Makoto cut imposing figures in the halls of their high school. Add in Kaname's volatile moods and hair-trigger temper, and it's little wonder their classmates keep them at a wary distance—the pair has become an object of quiet dread throughout the entire student body. In reality, though, these two are perfectly ordinary girls who simply never learned how to deal with people. Beneath their intimidating exteriors lie the same simple desires that drive any teenage girl: laughing with close friends, finding a boyfriend, and soaking up the everyday joys of school life. Yet every attempt they make to reach out ends in awkward failure, leaving them stuck on the outside looking in. Still, neither of them is willing to give up. If they can shrug off the disappointment and keep working to connect with the people around them, perhaps the day will come when they, too, can finally smile and be happy.
