Mates Above the Waters

After a series of catastrophic diastrophisms sent global sea levels spiraling upward, humanity's remaining habitable land grows ever more precarious. For Ho-Ju, the crisis is deeply personal—he dreams of giving his daughter, Han Byeol, a life that extends beyond the shrinking boundaries of their current existence. Determined to show her the wonders of a broader world, he sets out on a journey to the place where his own story began: his hometown, a coastal settlement he abandoned twenty years ago. Yet what awaits them is not the familiar refuge of memory. The town, now weathered by decades of rising tides and neglect, exudes an unsettling stillness. Every corner seems to hold cryptic warnings—peculiar markings, strange ruins, and an atmosphere thick with unspoken dread. As Ho-Ju grapples with the ghosts of his past and the pressing need to shield his daughter from unseen perils, the pair must navigate a labyrinth of suspicion and survival. With the waters continuing their inexorable climb and the town's secrets threatening to surface, Ho-Ju and Han Byeol are forced to ask whether their quest for a brighter future will ultimately lead them to salvation—or sink them into an abyss from which there is no return.
