Official Details
At first glance, Kodomo wa Wakatte Agenai presents itself as a tender coming-of-age romance and a family drama, but it seamlessly weaves together elements of a procedural detective story and a superpowered thriller into a deeply layered narrative of self-discovery. At the center is Sakuta Minami, an enthusiastic high schooler who openly celebrates her passions: Leiji Matsumoto anime, swimming, her family, and the fictional Magical Plastering Girl Buffalo Koteko. Yet beneath her cheerful exterior lies a lingering ache. For as long as she can remember, Minami has been haunted by unanswered questions regarding her mother’s separation from her biological father—a mystery that has quietly shaped her entire life. The turning point arrives in the form of Moji Shouhei, a fellow student and dedicated anime enthusiast with an extraordinary talent for calligraphy. Shouhei possesses something seemingly mundane yet profoundly significant: the physical key to their high school’s rooftop. More importantly, he holds the figurative key to unlocking the secrets of Minami’s past. As their paths intertwine, Shouhei becomes the catalyst for a journey that will finally allow Minami to unravel the enduring mystery surrounding her father, transforming both of their lives in unexpected ways.
