Strobe in the Dark

For Arata, the world has always revolved around Shotaro. Handsome, widely popular, and a standout star on the basketball team, Shotaro is also Arata’s closest childhood friend. Whenever another classmate works up the courage to confess their feelings to him, Arata quietly retreats to the shadows, listening from around the corner as Shotaro gently turns each admirer away. Unable to voice his own emotions, Arata channels his affection through his role in the school’s photography club, using his camera lens as a protective barrier to capture the boy he loves from a safe distance. Everything changes the day Shotaro finally admits that his heart belongs to someone else—and reveals that person is Arata himself. For Shotaro, Arata has been the only one who ever mattered. However, acknowledging these mutual feelings means confronting the weight of societal expectations and the fear of judgment from those around them. Now, both young men must decide if they are brave enough to step beyond the safety of secrecy, bringing their hidden relationship out of the darkroom and into the light.
