Appare-Ranman!

In the nineteenth century, Appare Sorano, an eccentric young mechanic, sets out on an adventure with Kosame Isshiki, the samurai charged with keeping watch over him. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they are cast adrift on the Pacific Ocean. A passing steamship rescues them, but instead of returning the pair to Japan, it carries them to America. Stranded in Los Angeles with no easy way home, Appare and Kosame decide to enter the world's first trans-American automobile race. The event is dangerous, and immense sums of money hinge on its outcome. Yet with so much at stake, the two may find the odds stacked against them as they take on the race and search for a way back to Japan.
