Sora Ueno is a high school student living in a remote mountain town where she has never truly felt at home. Her sole source of comfort was her childhood friend, Hinako. That bond was shattered during the Minazuki Festival in 1984 when Hinako vanished without a trace. Rather than launching a search, the villagers dismissed the event as kamikakushi—a supernatural abduction by the gods—and moved on with their lives. Four years later, in 1988, Hinako suddenly reappears. Strangely, she looks exactly as she did on the night she disappeared, having not aged a single day. Instead of welcoming her back, the community reacts with deep suspicion and fear, gradually ostracizing her. Refusing to let her friend suffer alone, Sora vows to protect Hinako and remains steadfastly by her side despite the growing hostility around them. As the two girls navigate this suffocating environment, unsettling truths begin to emerge. The eerie circumstances of Hinako’s return hint at darker secrets buried within the isolated town, forcing Sora to confront disturbing mysteries surrounding both the disappearance and the true nature of the place she calls home.
