After escaping capture, the UNSC cruiser Autumn's Column crash-lands on a mysterious ring-shaped celestial body known as the Halo. Pursued by Covenant forces, the cruiser's commanding officer is captured, and the lone super-soldier Spartan John-117 is left to fight for survival alongside the 105th Airborne Assault Regiment's paratroopers. As they engage in a desperate battle against the Covenant, they are unaware that a far greater threat, known as the Flood, also lurks in this ominous world. A parasitic entity that can infect and control any intelligent being that satisfies its host requirements, the Flood poses a catastrophic threat to the galaxy. Constructed by an advanced alien species as a prison to contain the Flood, the Halo ring is a ticking time bomb, and John must embark on a perilous journey to the ring's heart to prevent the Flood's horrific rampage from devastating the universe.
