Through the recommendation of a friend, the Shirotani family is offered the opportunity to move into a new apartment. Initially thrilled by their good fortune, their excitement quickly fades when they discover that the building operates under a deeply unsettling and bizarre regulation. The landlord enforces a single, unyielding mandate: whenever any resident stands in the owner's presence, they must wear a smile at all times. What begins as an odd quirk soon reveals itself to be something far more sinister, transforming their new home into a source of constant dread. The consequences for violating this rule remain terrifyingly ambiguous, yet one fact becomes immediately clear to the family—once inside, escape is entirely impossible. Trapped within the walls of their new residence, the Shirotanis are forced to navigate a suffocating environment where a single lapse in expression could spell disaster. Every encounter with the building's owner becomes a nerve-wracking test of endurance and emotional control. As the pressure mounts and the threat of punishment looms over them, their daily existence devolves into a desperate struggle for survival. What was meant to be a fresh start instead marks the beginning of a harrowing nightmare set against the backdrop of an ordinary apartment complex.
