Make a Girl

Set in the near future, Mizutamari Akira is a brilliant young scientist celebrated for developing Salt, a robot designed to assist people with their daily lives. Despite this early success, he has recently hit a professional dead end following a string of failed inventions. When a friend casually suggests that he could "power up" his personal life by creating a girlfriend, Akira takes the idea to heart and constructs an artificial partner designated as "No. 0," who quite literally becomes his romantic companion. However, No. 0 soon finds herself caught in a profound emotional conflict. She struggles to reconcile her originally programmed responses with genuine feelings that are rapidly evolving beyond her initial design. Meanwhile, Akira himself is unaccustomed to forming deep connections with others, making their unconventional relationship all the more complicated. As these two navigate the blurred lines between artificial programming and authentic human emotion, the story asks whether true love can genuinely blossom between a socially isolated creator and the partner he built from scratch, or if their experiment will ultimately lead them down an unforeseen path.
