Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

By the year 2032, the boundary between humanity and machinery has been irrevocably erased. In this advanced era, crimes perpetrated by cyborgs—beings of intertwined flesh and metal—are handled by Section 9, an elite counter-terrorism unit directed by Chief Aramaki and his formidable second-in-command, Major Motoko Kusanagi. Having confronted countless threats across both the physical world and the digital expanse, the squad now faces an unprecedented adversary known as The Awakened. This deadly terrorist faction possesses the terrifying ability to hijack the minds and bodies of nearly anyone, transforming innocent individuals into unwitting instruments of state sabotage. The victims carry out devastating crimes with no memory or awareness of the forces manipulating them. When Major Kusanagi successfully apprehends one such compromised individual, she initiates a direct hack into his cyberbrain to uncover the identity of the mastermind orchestrating the attacks. Instead of simple answers, her intrusion triggers a harrowing descent deep into the architecture of cyberspace—a profound journey that ultimately shakes her very sense of self to its core.
