Sekaiichi Zankoku de Utsukushii Grimm Douwa

Sekaiichi Zankoku de Utsukushii Grimm Douwa is a three-volume manga anthology that reimagines the world's most beloved Grimm fairy tales through a darker, more mature lens. Rather than offering sanitized retellings, this collection presents haunting one-shot adaptations crafted by a diverse roster of talented manga artists, each bringing their own distinct visual style and narrative voice to these timeless stories. Among the featured works are Aya Kotokawa’s Covered in Cinders, Mimei Sakamoto’s Rapunzel, Noji Hashimoto’s The Frog Prince, and Rie Hanamura’s Vampire Fantasy. Each standalone chapter delves into the grim and unsettling undertones hidden beneath familiar folklore, transforming classic narratives into compelling explorations of tragedy, horror, and dark fantasy. Beyond these highlighted stories, the anthology showcases contributions from an impressive lineup of additional creators, including Hanako Matsuyama, Kumiko Takeuchi, Mio Kasuga, Naoko Fuse, Romuko Miike, Satsuki Fukuzato, and Takayoshi Sagami. Together, they deliver a beautifully cruel reinterpretation of the Brothers Grimm legacy, offering readers a sophisticated and chilling departure from traditional fairy tale conventions.
