Binbougami no Susume

When a severe economic downturn strikes a quiet, rural town, the desperate residents search for someone to hold responsible for their sudden misfortunes. Rather than looking inward or accepting the harsh realities of the recession, the townspeople turn their collective frustration toward a nearby mountain. Atop this peak sits an old temple inhabited by a local deity, and the fearful community begins to blame this god for the financial ruin that has befallen them. Sharing the temple grounds is Gin, a fox spirit who serves as a devoted companion to the resident deity. Deeply offended by the humans' accusations, Gin grows furious at their audacity to condemn his master for circumstances far beyond divine control. He views the townspeople as ungrateful and irrational, harboring intense resentment toward those who would so easily vilify the god he reveres. However, as time passes and Gin observes the depth of the townspeople's suffering, his rigid hostility begins to waver. Witnessing the genuine despair brought on by the recession forces the proud fox spirit to reconsider his perspective. Through this quiet observation, Gin slowly cultivates an unexpected sense of empathy, ultimately learning to extend compassion toward the very humans he once despised.
