Chiba Tamao is a young man running out of time. Burdened by his family’s massive debt, he finds himself relentlessly pursued by the Yakuza through the streets. Just as his situation turns dire, he crosses paths with a mysterious stranger named Kurotengu—a man who openly declares his desire to “eat” him. Despite this unsettling introduction, Kurotengu intervenes and saves Tamao’s life. In the aftermath of the rescue, a startling truth comes to light: Kurotengu is not human at all, but rather a tengu, a powerful class of Japanese spirit known as a mononoke. Tamao’s immediate troubles seem to vanish when an associate of Kurotengu steps in to settle the outstanding debt with the Yakuza, finally granting him freedom from their pursuit. However, this salvation comes with a steep and unusual price. To repay the favor, Tamao is forced into an unexpected arrangement: he must join Kurotengu as a member of a boy band. Thrust into the world of idols while bound to supernatural beings, Tamao must navigate the demands of his new career. Yet, beneath the stage lights, a far more dangerous reality looms, as working alongside these spirits means constantly risking his own life to avoid being devoured by the very mononoke he now calls colleagues.
