Abenobashi: Magical Shopping Arcade

Sasshi’s life is rapidly unraveling. His closest friend, Arumi, is preparing to move away, and the familiar streets of his Osaka neighborhood are being torn down to make way for urban redevelopment. Yet beneath the crumbling concrete lies a secret far greater than anyone imagined: the district conceals a hidden gateway to parallel universes. When the demolition crews finally level this section of the city, the ancient portal fractures wide open, unleashing forces beyond comprehension. Caught in the resulting chaos, Sasshi and Arumi are violently thrust out of their reality and into a relentless succession of bizarre alternate dimensions. With no clear path home, the two friends are hurled from one surreal landscape to another, struggling to survive the unpredictable shifts around them. Compounding their disorientation, each strange new world they encounter serves as a distorted parody of popular culture. From blockbuster films and video games to manga and anime, these parallel realms twist familiar genres into absurd, mocking reflections. As the boundaries between fiction and reality collapse entirely, Sasshi and Arumi must navigate an ever-shifting labyrinth of pop-culture spoofs just to find their way back to the lives they left behind.
