Mezamereba Ningyo Hime

Mezamereba Ningyo Hime is an anthology comprising four distinct short stories, anchored by a titular narrative that explores themes of identity and hidden lineage. The central tale follows Nanami, a high school student harboring feelings for her classmate Takeru, whose ordinary life is upended when an enigmatic girl befriends her. This mysterious newcomer reveals shocking truths about Nanami’s forgotten past and her true heritage, forcing the protagonist to reconcile her perceived reality with a startling supernatural legacy that redefines her understanding of self and connection. The remaining stories in the collection offer varied tonal shifts, ranging from whimsical romance to lighthearted fantasy. One segment features a female student who makes the surprising discovery that a catboy attends her school, introducing elements of supernatural intrigue into a familiar academic setting. The anthology concludes with two tales centered on diminutive, mischievous demons whose chaotic antics provide comedic relief. Together, these narratives create a diverse tapestry of speculative fiction that balances emotional coming-of-age drama with playful supernatural encounters, showcasing a range of storytelling approaches within a single volume.
