From Shiori Amase, the acclaimed creator of Welcome to Ethics Class, comes an unprecedented and deeply unconventional anthology centered around a single, haunting motif: severed heads. Far from mere shock value, this lyrical collection explores profound philosophical questions about mortality, identity, and the lingering essence of humanity. At its core lies a singular inquiry—can a soul continue to reside within a severed head after death? Through this eerie yet poetic lens, the narrative bridges the divide between the departed and those left behind to mourn them. Transcending both time and cultural borders, the stories examine how people throughout history have grappled with the macabre fascination of severed heads. Each tale weaves together the lives of the dead and the living, illustrating that the human contemplation of mortality is universal and enduring. The anthology serves as a passionate, masterful depiction of grief, memory, and spiritual persistence, delivered with the distinctive brilliance characteristic of Amase’s work. This unparalleled collection ultimately celebrates five distinct souls, offering readers a beautifully crafted journey through the bizarre and the profound. By intertwining historical resonance with intimate emotional landscapes, the manga transforms a grim subject into a moving meditation on what it means to leave a piece of oneself behind in the world.
